Bio/History
Through yesterday’s retro musical memories, be it highly energetic or hauntingly romantic, for the last many years Dana B. Honey has been re-creating musical memories for audiences throughout almost every major stop in Western Canada and the U.S., a ‘cruise’ or two and gigs as far away as Matsuyama, Japan.
With an impressive yet unintrusive array of instruments (he plays guitar, piano, harmonica and sings) and the use of the latest musical technology for background (Dana programs ALL his own background music and harmony), Dana has perfected the art of re-creating music from the past and present which matches or exceeds the sound reproduction from an actual CD or tape ………. (or record, depending on which era we come from.)
With ‘dead on’ accuracy, Dana creates numerous timeless versions of 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s hits going way back to legends such as Roy Orbison, Elvis, and even Johnny Rivers. And the pedal steel guitar rings as he brings you into a country mode of classic hits such as Waylon Jennings’ ‘Luckenback Texas’ or Tim McGraws’ ‘Something Like That’. Even rocker classics such as ‘Brown Eyed Girl’, ‘You’re Mama Don’t Dance’ and ‘Devil With A Blue Dress’ really come alive when Dana straps on his Strat and ‘grooves’ with the audience. Even so, he’s never forgotten his dedication to fine intricacy in playing his instruments ...... this quickly becomes obvious!
As previously mentioned his musical background came through his family (brother played with Neil Young) there are so many more different styles and sounds he’s collected over the years, too numerous to mention here, that only his songlist could give you a taste of his versatility. Audiences become mesmerized when he quizzes them after performing one of his numerous renditions of ‘one-hit wonders’.
“Okay, who did these two songs: ‘Incense And Peppermints’ or ‘ Green Tambourine’?”
Having the experience of entertaining in casinos, bars, lounges and private functions, Dana’s musical abilities and rapport, (along with songs tailored for YOUR specific atmosphere), starts AND ends each evening with dedicated and polished perfection.
And voices ……. M-A-N, grab a front row seat at the original ‘Tonight Show’ to hear ‘Satchmo’; ‘American Bandstand’ to hear Neil Diamond or the Righteous Brothers sing hits from yesteryear; Woodstock to hear Joe Cocker or Free (‘Alright Now’) wail one out to thousands; ‘Soul Train’ to hear Little Stevie Wonder or James Brown, not to mention ‘The Opry House’ while Dwight or Willie capture their respective audiences. Even Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits), Glen Frey and Don Henley (Eagles), and The Doors come to life while Dana alters his vocal characteristics to literally ’bring you back in time.’
You will believe they are there!
Old rock – new rock ….. energy levels rise once he kicks into Lynyrd
Skynyrd’s ‘Sweet Home Alabama’, Robert Palmer’s ‘Addicted To Love’, Green
Day’s ‘Good Riddance’, Steve Earl’s ‘Copperhead Road’, ZZ Top’s ‘Sharp
Dressed Man’ and a variety of English invasion groups.
And let’m romance you with one of many acoustic classics (just Dana
and a piano) such as Elton’s ‘Tiny Dancer’, Joel’s ‘She’s Always A Woman To
Me’, Eagles ‘Desperado’ …….. or raise the energy with the Guess Who’s
ultimate classic ‘American Woman.’
Don’t let the real thing fool you ……. let Dana liven up your establishment.
Take a journey through time ………. get’m for a song! |
