Bio/History

In this day and age of mass marketing and a “gotta-have-the-latestand- greatest-or-I’m-just-no-good” attitude, it’s refreshing to see a group of entertainers who have never been mass-marketed (try as they might) and, while they may never be the latest or the greatest, they definitely are something most people would agree that you “gotta have.”

Dr. Zeuss and the Blue Whos was formed in 1991 for the purpose of performing honest roots music with energy and enthusiasm. The band is comprised of seven members, each of them a professional musician with years of experience. Prior to Dr. Zeuss, many of them had worked together before in top Western Canadian bands, including ADVENTURES in PARADISE, ROBERT BURTON, ECHO ECHO, GUY JONES, and AXFORD. Most of the players are multi-instrumentalists with proficiency in a variety of ever-expanding musical styles. Having said all this, the goal of the band is simple: Have Fun, Wear Clean Underwear and Don’t Bust Anything (alas, as the inimitable Meatloaf once sang, “Two out of three ain’t bad...”).

Who’s who in the Blue Whos

Rod Bader: Guitars & Vocals
Rod has played with many ‘A’ circuit bands based out of Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary. A studio guitarist in high demand, he is positive that his days of wrestling for food are forever behind him.

Scott Clare: Lead Vocals & Percussion
Scott’s powerful voice and natural stage presence are definite attention-grabbers at every show the BLUE WHOS play. Yet, as talented as he is, Scott’s recipe for happiness is simple: family to love, a song in your heart, and somethin’ broke that needs fixin’.

Doug Jackson: Drums & Percussion
An experienced & respected musician, Doug has earned multiple music degrees. Not surprisingly, Doug’s biggest achievement to date was when he actually served Queen Elizabeth a drink. Wow.

Tom Magee: Keyboards & Vocals
Tom’s musicianship and professionalism is surpassed only by his creativity and inventiveness. While he is not one to name-drop, ask him about ‘Tom Cochrane, the critic’, or his ex-roadie, Colin James.

Tod Petersen: Trumpet, Flugelhorn, Vocals, Percussion
Tod has been playing trumpet for 29 years, mostly in the field of Jazz, touring throughout North and South America. Not that it matters, but Tod believes that he once met Julio Iglesias in another life.

Dave Riley: Saxophones, Vocals, Percussion
More than 30 years of experience have tempered David’s strong musicianship and unique style. He has toured extensively and recorded with many top Edmonton bands, including a release that reached the top 40 in Canada.

Dale Wilson: Basses & Vocals
Dale was touring and recording with international and western Canadian artists for nearly 14 years before joining the WHOS. He holds a diploma in Jazz and Classical studies, and is the only band member to have delivered a baby during a live show.

Dave Harrison: Soundman, Technician
Dave has been mixing studio and live sound for over 17 years, with several CD projects to his credit. A skilled professional, he insists that you repeat everything that you say to him at least twice and mouth your words clearly while facing him directly. Good lighting is preferred.
